You must meet the residency rules under MCL 552.9. One spouse must have lived in Michigan for at least 180 days before filing. Waiting periods apply to every Michigan divorce. Cases without minor children must wait at least 60 days from the filing date before a judge can enter a final judgment. The judge considers each party's contributions, needs, and circumstances. Spousal support is addressed under MCL 552.13, where the court looks at ability to pay and the needs of both spouses.
